"Track Tucker" Premier Tour

I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell–based on the shocking, ridiculous and hilarious real life adventures of Tucker Max–is the story of an impromptu bachelor party gone horribly awry thanks to a midget, a fat girl, a gaggle of strippers, an overly destructive public intoxication ordinance, and the consequence of Tucker’s unflinching narcissism.

A nation wide tour had been developed to have 31 premiers, in 31 different cities. They did one premier each day leading up to the opening weekend. Instead of just doing one premiere either in New York or Los Angeles. At the premiers they had swag bags which was included in the price of the ticket, Q&A after each show, and stuck around to sign autographs and take pictures with fans. They also had after parties during some of their visits.

I thought this was a smart way to promote their movie. In addition, make an event that is usually very exclusive; made available to the general public. If you are an independent Film Maker or Production Company and looking to distribute your movie, increase ticket, or dvd sales. A "Premiere Tour" that is fun and can create unique experiences might be an avenue worth considering. In addition, will provide valuable data to Movie Distribution Companies on why it is worthwhile to pick up your next move project.

Movie theaters cut print show times as Web gains

Movie Exhibition Companies are starting to trend their advertising online rather than using Newspapers to show their show times. This is a smart move for many reasons. However, the question each theater company needs to determine is what demographic of people does each theater attract?

For example, if a large percentage of your business are senior citizens. It might not be the best decision to pull all of your print advertising. Many senior citizens either do not use the internet, may not be familiar with websites and search methods, and have used newspapers to find out show times of movies for a long period of time.

On the other hand, if your theater or theaters attracts a younger demographic that you feel are familiar with the internet and will not hinder the daily operations of your business; It is well worth cutting costs to your print advertising for multiple reasons. This will increase unique visitors/traffic to your website, allocate money to advertising that is measurable to ensure ROI goals are achieved. This is an important point because print advertising cannot measure how many people look at your movie listings or advertisements. However, online advertising is measurable.

This is a start of Movie Exhibition Companies using online advertising. There are a few Theater Companies using social networking sites like "Twitter" and "Facebook" to display show times, movie reviews, contests, and other relevant information pertaining to their company. I fully anticipate Movie Exhibition Companies using CPM, CPA, and other online advertising methods as a way to increase concession and gift certificate sales, drive traffic to their theaters and other ways that can be beneficial to the company and to its guests.

Interactive 3D Game Coming to Movie Theaters This Summer

By Mark Wilson

Asteroid Storm is an interactive 3D game coming to UK theaters later this summer that will precede movies like Ice Age 3 3D and Toy Story 3D.

20 UK Vue cinemas will offer audiences the opportunity to steer a spaceship through an asteroid belt. Two IR cameras will track the audience (the left half raises their hands to veer left, the right half raises their hands to veer right). None of the experience is prerendered—it's all an interactive video game.

As films go 3D, it'll be interesting to see if theaters (and movie makers) take the opportunity to integrate more interactive elements to the experience. Raising my hand in the air, however, is not how I see myself defeating the Decepticons to rule the Universe.

'Mystery Science Theater' and 'Plan 9' Coming to Cinemas

The stars of the cult TV show “Mystery Science Theater 3000” are reuniting for a one-night, nationwide in-theatre event, “RiffTrax Live: Plan 9 from Outer Space,” on August 20.

Michael J. Nelson, Kevin Murphy (Tom Servo) and Bill Corbett (Crow T. Robot) will appear on the big screen for an evening of live riffing on the 1959 Ed Wood cult classic “Plan 9 from Outer Space” from the Belcourt Theatre in Nashville, Tenn. “Plan 9” is often billed as the "worst movie ever made."

This is presented by NCM Fathom and Something Awful, the event will be hosted by Veronica Belmont, co-host of Revisions3’s tech-centric show, “Tekzilla” and “Qore” on the PlayStation Network. Something Awful’s Rick “Lowtax” Kyanka will present a guest segment and Jonathan Coulton is the musical guest. The event will also feature an advance look at a new short that audiences may download following the event.

“Mystery Science Theater” 3000 aired for 11 seasons on Comedy Central and the Sci Fi Channel in the late 1980s through 1999. The series featured a man and his robot sidekicks who are trapped in space by an evil scientist who forces them to watch terrible science fiction B-movies.

“RiffTrax Live” will be showing at AMC Entertainment, Cinemark USA, Cobb Theatres, Georgia Theatre Co., Goodrich Quality Theaters, Kerasotes Showplace Theatres, Marcus Theatres and Regal Entertainment Group.

Exhibs embrace 'Alternative Content'

Exhibs embrace 'alternative content'

Digital starts to make good on promises of riches

BRUSSELS — As installation of digital screens picks up in Europe, exhibitors are exploring options for showing "alternative content" alongside new feature films. Begun by many to fill the gap between 3-D releases, some like the results so much that alternative content has become a significant part of their digital business case.

Alternative content ranges from soccer and Formula One racing to live arts such as theater, opera and rock concerts. TV series get gala cinema openings thanks to digital screens, and interactivity has been tested with bigscreen console gaming.

Exhibitors have been tentative in crowded markets. "Our main goal is to show feature films, and there are a lot of films to show," says Thomas Runfors, spokesman for leading Swedish chain SF Bio, which has just started screening opera from Milan. "Hopefully it will be a success, but for our business it is not so important."

Odeon in the U.K. is committed, but cautious about alternative content. "We anticipate the revenue it brings in will be relatively small compared to 3-D but still significant," says Drew Kaza, director of digital development.

The market leader has done well with live arts and music, its best to date being tour movie "Iron Maiden -- Flight 666," which played in 39 locations with many screens at capacity.

Experimentation has been more intense for Kinepolis, an early investor in digital. The critical mass it has engendered in Belgium has helped develop a coherent, countrywide set of offerings. "However, carefully thought-out initiatives in France and Spain are as successful," says group spokeswoman Myriam Dassonville. Gaul recently lapped up a relay of the Cannes opening ceremony.

While live arts programming emphasizes quality, some exhibitors are winning with less visual polish. UCI Kinowelt in Germany has brought in horror fans with DVD-quality midnight screenings of films that missed theatrical release, such as "Diary of the Dead," "The Broken" and "Wicked Lake."

And in Prague, Palace Cinemas' top show for a week was a nightly DVD-quality screening of Led Zeppelin in concert. "If you reach the audience, it's really great," Palace topper V.J Maury says.
