'Mystery Science Theater' and 'Plan 9' Coming to Cinemas

The stars of the cult TV show “Mystery Science Theater 3000” are reuniting for a one-night, nationwide in-theatre event, “RiffTrax Live: Plan 9 from Outer Space,” on August 20.

Michael J. Nelson, Kevin Murphy (Tom Servo) and Bill Corbett (Crow T. Robot) will appear on the big screen for an evening of live riffing on the 1959 Ed Wood cult classic “Plan 9 from Outer Space” from the Belcourt Theatre in Nashville, Tenn. “Plan 9” is often billed as the "worst movie ever made."

This is presented by NCM Fathom and Something Awful, the event will be hosted by Veronica Belmont, co-host of Revisions3’s tech-centric show, “Tekzilla” and “Qore” on the PlayStation Network. Something Awful’s Rick “Lowtax” Kyanka will present a guest segment and Jonathan Coulton is the musical guest. The event will also feature an advance look at a new short that audiences may download following the event.

“Mystery Science Theater” 3000 aired for 11 seasons on Comedy Central and the Sci Fi Channel in the late 1980s through 1999. The series featured a man and his robot sidekicks who are trapped in space by an evil scientist who forces them to watch terrible science fiction B-movies.

“RiffTrax Live” will be showing at AMC Entertainment, Cinemark USA, Cobb Theatres, Georgia Theatre Co., Goodrich Quality Theaters, Kerasotes Showplace Theatres, Marcus Theatres and Regal Entertainment Group.
